Jennifer Deeks
You may have seen Jennifer around the clinic over the last 5 years as one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) and soon you may see her in a new role. With 23 years of experience across different areas of veterinary medicine, including specialty referral (surgery and dentistry) and emergency, she brings a lot of knowledge to the table. Jennifer has attended an intense communications training course to further enhance her knowledge and skills to move into the role of RVT Wellness Program Coordinator.

A lifelong learner, Jennifer loves to stay abreast of the latest topics in preventive veterinary medicine, often attending webinars and training courses on evenings and weekends. She completed additional training in ultrasound imaging and is working towards a specialty designation in clinical practice, which is the highest-level certification that an RVT can achieve.

“It’s really an exciting time to be an RVT. We have been watching the crippling staff shortages facing the veterinary industry and wanting to help, but were working under outdated legislation (the Veterinary Act was last updated in 1996) that really prevented us from using a lot of our training. I am really looking forward to working with our clients and their pets to help set them up for long term success with a focus on preventive medicine and lifestyle management”

Routine veterinary appointments when pets are healthy are important to catch health issues sooner and to discuss lifestyle and environmental management to help keep them healthier for longer. With the ongoing veterinary staffing shortage, RVTs such as Jennifer are increasingly filling the gap to provide preventive care for healthy pets and creating more time for Veterinarians to see sick and injured pets.

Outside of the hospital, Jennifer is a passionate gardener who volunteers with the Grey County Master Gardeners, dabbles in creating digital art, and loves spending time with her 3 bearded collies – Watson, Moriarty, and Rayne.
